Voting Question: Questions About The Great Gatsby that don't seem to be answered?

29 November 2008, 12:09 am

FYI I made these questions up. They are not for homework. I just want somebody to give me there opinion or there answer so I can eliminate this quest for specifics. ~ Why did myrtle Wilson run out on the street to talk to daisy when she didn’t know her (or Gatsby). I still don’t understand how the crash happened can someone explain how they crashed ~Can Gatsby truly be trusted that Daisy drove the car ~Why would Wilson think Gatsby the driver (by Wilson’s believe) was myrtle Wilson lover when there where two people in the car (according to witnesses). Why would Gatsby have a women present with him. ~Why was Gatsby and/or (yes AND) Daisy so cowardly. Why didn’t Gatsby immediately stop the car and confess when daisy feel on his lap.(if he was so brave and wanted to take the blame, why drive all the way home). Honestly this one still doesn’t make sense to me, it for some reason makes Gatsby a coward as well. ~I still don’t get why Gatsby was hiding the car in his garage and why didn’t he confess and get arrested after since he said he wanted to take the blame for Daisy. I don’t understand. Gatsby says he wants to take the blame but why is he going swimming. Shouldn’t he be confessing. I still view Gatsby as a hypocritical elitist. I do believe he loved Daisy but I don’t believe he had integrity like Nick and wanted to go to jail or was willing for someone to go to jail for the death of myrtle Wilson ~Why did Nick decide to go to work the day Gatsby died when he was very late and he didn’t even work that day because he couldn’t concentrate (is this just symbolism or is this suppose to make sense). ~A logic question. Throughout the end of the novel, it is constantly spoken and tom confesses in the end that Tom believes Gatsby was driving the car. But other then Nick nobody truly knows this or really has reason to think this (maybe the police in the future but I guess they don‘t find out). Why logically would Tom ever think that it’s Gatsby, after all the only evidence they have is that it’s a yellow car driving to New York. Seriously that’s ridiculous to accuse Gatsby. Is there one yellow car driving to new York? Is Fitzgerald trying to say the audience is stupid? (or is Nick really not that trust worthy and destroyed his credibility and his entire integrity by telling this lie to Tom? I Don’t think that’s it) ~Why any notes I read or supposedly in the book it is interpreted in chapter 8 as Daisy choose Tom. Although I’m not arguing that this is incorrect, I think its clearly a toss up before Gatsby is killed. Nick makes it seem like Gatsby lost for sure, but nowhere does Daisy mention that she will live or stay with Tom. I think she went home because of the fright and the car accident (for Gatsby to protect her). ~Why do you think Nick doesn’t confess and clear Gatsby’s name by saying who was actually driving the car to Tom especially when he meets him. (is this suppose to be an integrity example; because I think this would clear Gatsby’s responsibility and probably make Tom feel shame). After all Tom would almost definitely forgive Daisy (or do you think otherwise?). I think this is a question about Nicks Integrity... Read More »
